FATTY LIVER

INTRODUCTION

A buildup of fats in the liver known as fatty liver disease can harm the organ and result in significant problems.

FATTY LIVER

The accumulation of excessive amounts of fat in the liver results in the common condition known as fatty liver disease which is also known as hepatic steatosis. A normal or healthy liver will contain a small amount of fat but when fat equals 5% to 10% of the weight of the liver, a problem arises.

A liver with too much fat in it may become inflamed, which could harm it and leave scarring. This scarring can cause liver failure in severe situations.

The stages of liver disease.

There are two types of fatty liver disease which are

    • Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (AFLD)

Fatty liver that develops in people who consume large amounts of alcohol

    • Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)

Fatty liver that develops in people who don’t consume a lot of alcohol

SYMPTOMS

Before the condition progresses to liver cirrhosis, people with fatty liver disease frequently show no symptoms. These could be the symptoms:

    • Upper right side of the abdominal ache or a sense of fullness (belly)
    • Nausea, a decline in appetite, or weight loss
    • Yellowish eye whites and skin (jaundice)
    • Abdomen and legs that are enlarged (edema)
    • Extreme fatigue or mental disorientation
    • Weakness

WHAT CAUSES THE DISEASE? THE DISEASE?

  • As a result of consuming too many calories, fat builds up in the liver. If the liver does not break down and metabolize fats as it normally should, too much fat will accumulate. Fatty liver is more likely to develop in those who also have other conditions such as obesity, diabetes, or high triglycerides.
  • Fatty liver is another condition that can develop from rapid weight loss, in addition to malnutrition and alcohol abuse. The development of fatty liver is possible in people with or without any of these diseases.
