TISSUE ENGINEERED HUMAN SKIN

DEFINITION

Tissue-engineered human skin is a biomedically engineered product that can treat a wound bed as a temporary protective cover and accelerate the wound-healing process by using biomaterials and scaffolds.

Skin is one of the most critical organs in our body. It mainly serves as a physical shield and part of a complex regulatory system in our body. Several crucial roles of skin in our body includes:
- Protection of the body against pathogens and environmental stressors
- Regulation of body temperature
- Production of important hormones
- Storeroom for metabolic products, fat and water.
- Excretion of waste material like sweat.
- Provides sensory function such as sensitivity to heat and pain.
A small incision or cut on the epidermis can be easily healed. However, chronic wounds such as deep injuries, removal of skin more than 4 cm thickness, and burns require specialized skin grafting treatment. However, skin grafting is always limited by the amount of available healthy donor tissue, and, just like other organ transplantations, it has a risk of being rejected by the recipient’s body system.

An alternative to skin grafting, Tissue-Engineered Human Skin (TEHS), can provide a safer and better treatment through acceleration of the wound-healing process and decreasing the risk of fluid loss and wound contamination. TEHS also allows the wound to heal into a native-like skin with less scarring and build-up of irregular cells.

WHAT WE OFFER?

Here in Malaysia, we are the first mover in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative-based treatment, including TEHS products. We provide a number of TEHS products for our potential clients’ treatment.

MYDERM

MYDERM is developed from a small biopsy of healthy skin harvested from the patient, further processed to isolate skin cells (keratinocytes and fibroblast cells). The cells are expanded in vitro and then used in combination with a fibrin matrix to create a 3D bilayer skin construct, ready to be transplanted on wounds.

MYDERM works by covering the surface of the wound and acts as an organ transplant with live cells that will assimilate and integrate with the patient’s own body and skin.

CELLTIGRAFT

CELLTIGRAFT is an Autologous Bilayer Tissue Engineered Human Skin (TEHS) used to treat and manage skin loss injuries and wounds. It is completely compatible with patients, with zero chance of rejection.

CELLTIGRAFT is constructed of 1 to 2 million fibroblast and keratinocyte cells which are embedded in human plasma.

ALGRAFT

ALGRAFT is an Allogenic Bilayer Tissue Engineered Human Skin (TEHS) substitute used to treat and manage wounds and major skin loss. It is derived from young, healthy donors who have gone through extensive screening before extraction, amplification, and construction as TEHS. It comprises fibroblast and keratinocyte cells that mimic 90% of human skin morphology and functions.

ALGRAFT is beneficial for early coverage of wounds to prevent infection, contracture, and promote healing by stimulating the patient’s skin formation.
