Chronic renal disease, usually referred to as CKD or chronic kidney disease, is a disorder in which kidney function gradually declines over time while Acute Kidney Disease which is referred as AKD is a rapid decrease in renal function over days to weeks.
Acute/chronic kidney disease (A/CKD), commonly known as kidney failure or renal failure, is a medical disorder where the kidneys lose some of their capacity to filter waste materials and extra fluid from the bloodstream. The accumulation of waste materials and fluids in the body can have a negative impact on other body systems and our health.
The reason the condition is referred to as “chronic” is because the kidneys’ damage develops gradually over a lengthy period of time. Besides, Acute Kidney Disease refers to a sudden episode of kidney failure or kidney damage that happens within a few hours or a few days.
People with A/CKD may not feel ill or notice any symptoms. The only way to find out is through specific blood and urine tests. These tests include the measurement of both the creatinine level in the blood and protein in the urine.
As kidney disease gets worse, a person may have swelling, called edema. Edema happens when the kidneys can’t get rid of extra fluid and salt. Edema can occur in the legs, feet, or ankles, and less often in the hands or face.
Other symptoms of advanced A/CKD are chest pain, itching or numbness, muscle cramps, nausea, weight loss, sleep problems, shortness of breath, headaches, increased or decreased urination, and blood in the urine.
Diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and cigarette smoking are the common risk factors of chronic kidney disease (CKD).
The common causes of acute kidney failure include:
The treatment of acute/chronic kidney disease will depend on the stage of the kidney disease. There are several main treatments which are
1. Medicine
There’s no medicine specifically for acute/chronic kidney disease, but medicine can help control many of the problems that cause the condition and the complications that can happen as a result of it.
High blood pressure
Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE)
High cholesterol
Statins
High potassium
Sodium Zirconium Cyclosilicate
Anaemia
Iron
Bone problems
Calcium acetate
Calcium carbonate
2. Dialysis
This is a method of removing waste products and excess fluid from the blood. However, dialysis is not regarded as the best course of treatment due to the high expenses of care and detrimental effects on the patient’s quality of life
3. Kidney transplant
An alternative to dialysis for people with severely reduced kidney function is a kidney transplant. This is often the most effective treatment for advanced kidney disease, but it involves major surgery and taking medicines (immunosuppressants) to stop the body attacking the donor organ. Besides, its usage is restricted because to the severe lack of organ donors and the possibility of organ rejection.
CelltiX is a type of extracellular vesicle from Umbilical Cord-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) manufactured in a cGMP-compliant facility.
It is a novel form of a major paracrine factor released by MSCs into a culture medium, which plays an important role in a wide range of biological processes.
CelltiMax is a product derived from human umbilical cord-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs). The cells are cultured, then administered to the patient via intramuscular or intravenous injection. They have the ability to differentiate into specialized cells with specific functions for various parts of the body, and can reduce inflammation, repair, renew, regenerate, and replace damaged cells.
